*This post is not sponsored and I have not been paid to write it.*

A friend of mine very recently lost her 8 month old baby girl, Peyton, to cancer. She had leukaemia and lost her fight only a few short weeks after her initial diagnoses. I am writing this post for her and her very brave parents Terri and Kurt.
There are very few words that can describe the devastation of losing a child.
Cancer is a truly awful disease and a major culprit for stealing the health and lives of so many young children. There are over 625 children diagnosed with cancer in Australia every year, dealing a devastating blow to not only these kids but their family and friends too. The children’s cancer institute Australia relies on vital funds to support their lifesaving research into finding a cure for cancer.
This is where WE CAN HELP
Reading Eggs is an awesome online reading program for children aged between 3 and 13 (although my 2 year old loves having a go already). It’s fun, it’s educational and kids love it. Sam the ant and his friends will become very familiar little characters in your home and you’ll be amazed at the literacy progress your kids make when doing the reading egg lessons and books.

Reading Eggs is running a five week FREE reading challenge called ‘Read-to-cure’ to help raise funds which will all go DIRECTLY to the children’s cancer institute Australia.
If your kids would like to join challenge, then all you have to do is SIGN UP HERE and create an account with Reading Eggs. You will then need to add each child so that reading eggs can determine their appropriate reading age. Once you are all set up, your 5 weeks free trial will be automatically added and you can start the reading fun.
The Read-to-cure challenge starts on Monday 4th August and ends on 1st September. At the end of this challenge your free trial will end. You can further subscribe after that but there is no obligation. No credit card details are captured during the free trial period.
THE FUN PART
Children will be able to set up their own fundraising page with Go Fundraise to encourage friends and family to sponsor their reading. The more they read and fundraise, the more chance they have of winning some awesome prizes.
The top 5 children who complete the most books and lessons will WIN:
- 1st Prize: An Apple ipad mini plus an itunes gift card and a Hoyts family movie pass valued at $650
- 2nd Prize: A JB Hi Fi voucher worth $500 and a $50 Hoyts family movie pass.
- 3rd Prize: A Toys R Us voucher worth $150 and a $50 Hoyts family movie pass.
- 4th prize: A Toys R Us voucher worth $100 and a $50 Hoyts family movie pass.
- 5th Prize: A $50 Hoyts family movie pass.
The top 5 children who raise the most funds will also have the chance of winning those fabulous 5 prizes.
So who’s in??? I think this is such a great challenge, not only to raise money for an amazing cause, but also to encourage our kids that reading is fun. Both Miss H and Master J have been doing Reading Eggs for a couple of years now and it’s one part of their homework that I never have trouble getting them to do (especially as they can use the ipad to do it).
They are both raring to go on this challenge, so if you would like to support them and the children’s cancer institute Australia you can do so here:
